Wymondham Community Bookshop, trading as Kett’s Books, are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. This policy explains how we use the information we collect about you and how we safeguard your privacy.
We will only use the information that we collect about you lawfully (in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998).
The information we collect and how we use it
When you order a book with Kett’s Books, we ask your name and for contact details so we can keep in touch about your order. This is normally a phone number or an email address.
Our computer ordering system sends your order to a book supplier, but we only send a unique reference to identify the book as a customer’s order.
If you don’t wish to be contacted, we can leave your details off or put an identifier on your record that you wish not to be contacted. In this case it is the decision of staff whether to accept the order.
Occasionally customers ask us to have orders sent directly to an address. In this case we will ensure the details are used solely for the purpose of purchasing/receiving a book. This will be reflected in the service level agreement between the supplier and Kett’s Books.
In some cases you may wish to pay for items using a credit card over the phone. We will ask for your postcode and your credit card details. The card machine processing software does retain the information about your transaction, but we will not store this information in any form. We may offer to email you a receipt from a card transaction, but again we do not retain your email address.
Occasionally we may ask customers for their post code or other non-identifying demographic information, so we can better understand our customers.
Some customers opt-in to emails about special offers, author signings, and other events which we think may be of interest to you (and for related marketing purposes).
Everyone can unsubscribe from any email list at any time, either by following the instructions at the end of the email, or by letting us know in the shop.
If we change the use of your information, we will email you and give you a chance to ask us not to use your information in that way.
Security of your information
We follow strict security procedures in the storage and disclosure of information which you have given us. This is to prevent unauthorised access or unlawful processing of your personal information.
Non-disclosure to third parties
Unless we have your consent, we will only disclose your personal data to third-parties if this is required for the purpose of completing your transaction with us. If personally identifying data about you were to be shared with a partner company, we will tell you before we collect or transfer the data so that you may opt out of this transfer if you wish.
We use your information only as set out in this Policy and will not sell, rent, or pass your information on to others for marketing purposes without your consent.
We may provide aggregate statistics about customers, sales traffic patterns and related information to the Booksellers Association to better understand the industry, but these statistics will include no personally identifying information. We may also release account information where we believe in good faith that this release is reasonably necessary to comply with the law.
